Welp, that’s how we feel. We are proud to announce D+RIP [Digital Real Items for Pandas] — our newest endeavor that closes the loop between the panda and the person.
As we continue to expand our world in both Web3 and Web2 across different playgrounds [sports leagues, athletes, and media], we have meticulously observed what some of the biggest global brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma have attempted and coupled that with listening to our community regarding how it has become increasingly vital to create a deeper connection between one’s digital and physical self across everything we do. Let’s face it, if it’s not digital it’s not timeless, but if it’s not physical it’s not “real” — Meta af, we know, but enough with blowing your minds, because it’s not that deep.
This is how it works!
🛒 When buying a D+RIP item, you get a digital (as a trait on the PPDEX) and a physical item.
[TLDR: D+RIP items are token-gated for panda holders only and can be purchased using crypto or fiat on the PPDEX. The first release will be on Thursday, July 6 — half of the supply will drop at 9 AM EST and the other half at 6 PM EST. Shipping is included in the price]

This is how D+RIP works:
When purchasing a D+RIP item from the PPDEX Marketplace, you get the physical item and also its digital trait which can be equipped on your panda! D+RIP items are token-gated for panda holders only and can be purchased using crypto or fiat.
When scanned, D+RIP items are NFC enabled and will offer exclusive perks and activations in our ecosystem. When scanning the NFC card on the D+RIP item, a separate NFT will be minted which is only transferable by scanning the. When you scan the NFC chip, you claim the NFT.
For example — if you sell an NFC-enabled D+RIP shirt, the NFT ownership of the shirt will only be migrated once the buyer scans the NFC chip on the shirt he bought.
FAQ:
Is the D+RIP trait transferred when the D+RIP physical item is sold to another buyer?No. The D+RIP trait will remain with the first individual who scanned the D+RIP item and cannot be transferred.
Are we using PBT (Physical Backed Token) or something similar to tokenize ownership of the items in a verifiable way?An NFT will be issued with a unique identifier per item. The NFT is not sellable. It can only be transferred upon scanning the D+RIP physical item.
Does the NFC chip do anything besides just linking you to a website?
Yes. You will receive an NFT that can be used for token-gated activations and content and receive updates. For example, you could get early access to a mint or product release or be entered into a raffle. Collections of NFT can be gamified as well — for example, if you own 3 D+RIP items, you can get incremental discounts off the next purchase or receive a free trait.
If someone were to sell or gift a physical item, how does the digital transfer take place?
The new owner scans the chip, and the NFT is revoked and issued to the new owner.
